North Washington Detention Ponds

Quam at work at the North Washington Detention Ponds project

Improvements Needed for Future Growth

For this underground utilities project, Quam was the contractor working with Apex Engineering Group on North Washington Street regional stormwater and sanitary sewer improvements. The North Washington Street watershed (a 1500 acre sub-watershed area) needed improvements to accommodate future land use plans and development occurring in the region. The majority of the project included the construction of four stormwater detention ponds and culverts with some sanitary sewer included. Quam built one culvert system with a 5° bend – a first for our crew!

Quality Water and Housing Development Ready

Quam needed to muck out poor materials from the wetland area, replacing them with good embankment materials for the ponding systems. The culverts were designed to eventually support roads for future development in the area. The stormwater detention ponds not only provide water quality measures for the region, but provide the City with premium sites for housing development aimed at residents wanting added aesthetics.
